This news kinda flew under the radar this week, but it shouldn’t be ignored. In its first ruling on abortion with Justice Barrett on the bench, the Supreme Court disregarded the consensus of medical experts and gave the Trump Administration the green light to needlessly endanger abortion patients and their families during the pandemic.

President-Elect Biden has said that his administration will address COVID-19 by following the science. They can start on day one by allowing patients to receive the medication by mail so that patients are no longer forced to risk needless viral exposure as a condition of accessing care.

Medication abortion is safe, effective, and has been FDA-approved for 20 years—yet it remains subject to unique restrictions that cause serious harm to patients with zero safety benefit. It’s past time to lift those barriers once and for all. Photo from 2019. ❤️

Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA deleted this tweet, posted two days before the attempted coup, in which he bragged about sending 80 buses of knuckle-dragging fascist shits to the Capitol to *best case scenario* demand an overturn of an election. 80 buses is a lot. They often seat about 50 people, so that could be 4,000 people summoned and sent by this anti-education fascist fool.

I want to remind everyone again that this cretin's astroturf Trumpjugend organization is the cause that the entire Nebraska Republican Party backed when Courtney Lawton flipped one of their staffers off at a political protest. They tried to crucify me, as well, for...what? Holding a sign asking to be put on the TPUSA "professor watch list" and then being perfectly civil to their staff. They never did put me on their watch list, of course, because the point of the list is to intimidate and it was clear that it wouldn't intimidate me. This ignorant, fascist youth org is funded by would-be oligarchs who, besides trying to overthrow a new administration that--unlike Trump's--was elected by a majority of voters, has been trying to smother one of their biggest threats: a higher education system that teaches critical thinking and historical and cultural awareness. It is long past time for university administrations to stop treating this aggressively hostile outside organization like a conservative coffee club.

A day before the riot at the Capitol, robocalls were sent from the Republican Attorneys General Association, urging them to march on the Capitol to “stop the steal” and “continue to fight to protect the integrity of our election.”

Today I filed a public records request to see to what extent public funds have supported Attorney General Doug Peterson’s membership of RAGA, including any impact those funds may have had in organizing support for the Capitol riot.

We need accountability for how these funds were used and for who is responsible. Those behind this dangerous attack an attack on the Capitol that left 5 people dead and directly targeted our elected representatives need to be condemned and punished. Every public official should agree: To let this insurrection pass without a full investigation would set a dangerous precedent for the future of our democracy.

Or a couple. Or a few. It doesn’t matter. You got my point. If you live in a country where the majority of the population is white, you can’t use it as an excuse for not having a variety of people in your circles.

Look around. How many black doctors you’ve had in your life? What about black lawyers? Or black bosses, in general? I can start: zero! And I was born in Brazil, where the majority of the population is black. This reflects the lack of opportunities for black people in dominant spaces or positions of power.

“Ah, but we don’t find talented black people to hire.”

“Ah, but we don’t see many black people with lots of education.”

I’ll repeat: this reflects the lack of opportunities for black people, which is obviously rooted in slavery and perpetuated by a white supremacist society.

If you’re a white person, you have responsibility. You can’t think, “I’m just one person” or “I’m just one business.” White people have work to do. You created this situation.

Think of your personal and professional circles, and all the organizations you’re involved with. How do they look like? Diverse? Do non-whites feel included? Is there a sense of belonging — or are they just fitting in?

To all black people navigating white spaces OR whose jobs rely on formal education OR whose jobs are occupied most frequently by white people OR whose friends are mostly white, I have a few questions:

Do you feel genuinely seen, heard and respected for your contributions and knowledge? For being who you are? Or do you feel like a token?

Do you feel supported when you need?

Do your white friends welcome conversations about racism or anti-racism without using the excuse that they don’t know what to say or do? If they don’t, this is a big red flag.

Reflect on that. Be strong to push these conversations but, above all, protect your peace, your heart and your soul ❤️

Sometimes advocacy looks like having a debate in a large fb group because even if it feels like one person is bantering with you- hundreds are likely going to read it. So be armed with good information 👏🏼 Voter ID laws seem innocent to many because we have IDs for lots of things. And who doesn’t have an ID right??? 👉🏼 Wrong. Lots of people do not... And majority are the already marginalized BUT more importantly they can change *what* IDs qualify. In Texas that meant NRA licenses qualified as an ID but student IDs did not. Partisan bodies can use it with precision to eliminate or suppress a certain population by this method. And they have done so over and over again in other states. It is #votersuppression #voterdisenfranchisement because then people are confused on what ID works and then just don’t show up. This is used to discriminate. So talk with others and educate wherever you are able because it’s a sneaky way to suppress the vote.
